What were your duties as an NCLA intern: I drafted comments for a notice and comment period, created several briefs and memos, and participated in the litigation process at both the district and appellate levels.

What did you most enjoy about your internship? The wide variety of issues I got to work on and the attorneys I was able to learn from. Everyone here is incredibly accomplished, and they are eager to involve the law clerks on their different projects.

Any Advice for Future Interns? Really focus on your legal writing class and take a regulatory law class prior to interning if possible. The latter certainly isn’t required, but you will have more time to work on projects if you have a working understanding of regulatory space prior to clerking.

How might you use what you’ve learned later in your professional career? The legal writing experience I gained at NCLA will certainly be useful later in my career. I was given a lot of opportunities to write, and several attorneys provided feedback on my writing while I was here.

What interesting thing did you learn about administrative law while you were here? Something that really stuck out to me is how broadly administrative agencies interpret seemingly benign, general grants of rulemaking authority.
