For years, many have warned of the risks of the agency’s changing priorities and scope. With the outbreak of COVID-19, the costs of CDC’s mission creep are clear. With only 4 percent of its $7.3 billion annual budget allocated to new infectious diseases and global threats, it left us ill-prepared for the novel coronavirus.
