What were your duties as an NCLA clerk?

At NCLA, I have had the opportunity to experience the “behind the scenes” of the litigation process. My responsibilities included conducting legal research, drafting court filings, and even writing a blog post!

What did you most enjoy about your clerkship?

There was so much to enjoy about clerking for NCLA! I thoroughly enjoyed learning from my attorney mentor, as well as getting the chance to work with many of the litigators at NCLA. It was also wonderful to witness some big Supreme Court victories this summer! It was really neat to see the litigators and everyone at NCLA enjoy the rewards of all the hard work they have put in for years!

I also enjoyed getting to know the other clerks, from various law schools around the country!

What interesting thing(s) did you learn about Administrative Law?

I learned quite a bit about administrative law! I learned so much about the (now overturned) Chevron doctrine, how it worked, the arguments for and against it, and what might be the future of administrative law post-Chevron.

How might you use what you’ve learned later in your professional career?

I believe all of the skills I gained at NCLA will be valuable to me in my professional career. I know the legal research skills and practice will be valuable in any area of law. Additionally, the feedback and tips I received from the attorneys on legal writing have benefitted me immensely! The communicative skills I practiced while communicating with the litigators for each project will be helpful moving forward, as well.

Any advice for other students who want to clerk at NCLA in the future?

Enjoy your time at NCLA! Take advantage of every opportunity to learn. Don’t be afraid to ask questions because that’s where the most learning happens!
