What were your duties as an NCLA intern? Researching federal and state ‘search and seizure’ claims
What did you most enjoy about your internship? The fire everyone has for their work here!
What interesting thing(s) did you learn about Administrative Law? That everything I learned in LegReg (first-year Admin Law) is constitutionally and historically troubling.
How might you use what you’ve learned later in your professional career? As an aspiring judge, I will undoubtedly be wary of administrative agencies attempting to use deference and other administrative law doctrines to bypass constitutionally established procedure.
Any advice for other students who want to intern at NCLA in the future? This applies to anyone seeking a job anywhere, but do your research on the organization before applying. Listen to the “Administrative Static” podcast. Read Professor Hamburger’s book “The Administrative Threat” (a great introduction to Admin Law and a unique perspective from that of the rest of the legal academy). And reach out to some of the lawyers. Whether you work for NCLA or not, there is some amazing intellectual work going on here that warrants a deep dive.
