NCLA’s Chief Financial Officer, Tom Fleener, has served many years as a senior finance executive in both the Fortune 500 and nonprofit industry space. Tom began his professional career with Procter and Gamble and later worked in various finance and corporate development roles at Verizon, Inc. and Aquila, Inc. (now part of Evergy). In 2009, he became CFO and Treasurer of MRIGlobal (formerly known as Midwest Research Institute), a Kansas City based non-profit organization whose mission is to create a safer, healthier, more sustainable world. During this time, and in addition to his role as CFO, he served alternatively as the Chair and vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Sustainable Energy (Alliance). The Alliance is the management and operations contractor for the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL). He later assumed responsibility for MRIGlobal’s Laboratory Operations and Government Affairs office in Washington, DC. A native of Chicago Illinois, Tom grew up in Waukesha, Wisconsin and Miami, Florida. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with honors from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas and an MBA from the University of Texas Austin. Tom is married to Sheryl and has two children and three grandchildren.
